What Is An AGM Battery?

The AGM battery is a storage battery that was invented earlier and is more widely used. It is a valve-regulated sealed lead-acid battery (also called VRLA battery) using glass fiber separator (AGM), represented by some battery companies in Japan. This battery is a kind of VRLA battery. One type of battery that also belongs to the VRLA battery is the GEL type battery. In the 1990s, the development of communication and electric power made the AGM type battery develop rapidly, with a high market share and the GEL type battery is relatively low.

AGM battery uses pure sulfuric acid aqueous solution as an electrolyte, and its density is 1.29-1.3lg / cm3. Most of it exists in the glass fiber membrane, and at the same time, a part of the electrolyte is absorbed inside the electrode plate. In order to provide a channel for the oxygen precipitated from the positive electrode to the negative electrode, it is necessary to keep 10% of the pores of the separator not occupied by the electrolyte, which is a lean liquid design. The pole group adopts the method of tight assembly in order to make the pole plate fully contact with the electrolyte. At the same time, in order to ensure the battery has a sufficient life, the electrode plate should be designed thicker, and the positive grid alloy adopts Pb’-q2w-Srr–A1 quaternary alloy. AGM-type sealed lead-acid batteries have less electrolyte, thicker plates, and lower active material utilization than open-cell batteries. Therefore, the discharge capacity of batteries is about 10% lower than open-cell batteries. Compared with today’s colloidal sealed batteries, the discharge capacity is smaller.

Compared with the battery of the same specification, the price is higher, but it has the following advantages: 1. The cycle charging capacity is 3 times higher than the lead-calcium battery and has a longer service life. 2. It has higher capacitance stability throughout the entire life cycle. 3. Low-temperature performance is more reliable. 4. Reduce the risk of accidents and reduce the risk of environmental pollution (due to the 100% sealed installation of acid) 5. Maintenance is very simple and reduces deep discharge.
